Sawdust
Quotes, invoices and tax for sole traders in the trades.
A phone app for UK sole traders that handles the quote, the invoice and the payment, and sets tax money aside as you get paid.
Who it is for
UK sole traders in the trades: builders, electricians, plumbers, joiners, decorators.
Quotes get written in the van at the end of the day, acceptance gets chased over text, and the tax bill turns up in January as a nasty surprise. The paperwork is the part of the job nobody trained for.
How it works
Sawdust follows a job from start to finish. You put a quote together on your phone and send the client a link. They open it, read it and accept it without installing anything or creating an account. Once accepted, the quote becomes the invoice, so nothing has to be typed in twice.
Payments are taken by card or recorded as cash, so the app knows what has actually been paid, not just what has been invoiced. Because it knows your real income, Sawdust can work out roughly what you will owe HMRC and keep that amount to one side. When the tax bill arrives, the money is already there.
What it does
Quote in the van
Put a quote together on your phone from saved line items and rates. It takes a few minutes.
A link for the client
The client gets a link to view and accept the quote. They do not need an app or an account.
Accepted quote becomes the invoice
When the client accepts, the quote turns into the invoice. You do not type the numbers in again.
Card or cash
Take card payments through the app, or record cash on the spot, so your records match what is actually in the bank.
Tax set aside
As payments come in, Sawdust works out the tax share and keeps a running total of what to put aside, so there is no scramble at year end.
